Journeys

Four routes we have already walked

Not packages off a shelf — these are the trips we actually run, written down so you have something to react to. Every one of them is a starting point: we rebuild it around you.

May – October

The first week

Two bases, one move, and the country's best introduction.

For a first trip, and built around the mistake most first trips make: moving too often. Two bases in a week means you unpack twice and spend the rest of the time looking at Switzerland instead of at a suitcase.

Where you sleep

Lucerne · Mürren

What is in it

  • Cogwheel up the Rigi, the ridge walk to Rigi Staffel, and the lake boat home from Vitznau instead of the train.
  • The rack railway to the Jungfraujoch, down the far side to Stechelberg, and the cable car up to Mürren — a circuit, not a return trip.
  • Piz Gloria on the Schilthorn, early, before the coaches come up from Interlaken.
  • Two nights in a village with no through road, which is a different place after the day-trippers leave.

Four languages, nine nights

German, French and Italian Switzerland, by train.

The route we ran ourselves in the summer of 2025. It crosses the country twice and changes language twice, and it is the trip that makes people understand how much is packed into somewhere this small.

Where you sleep

Lucerne · Lausanne · Lugano

What is in it

  • Lucerne and the lake mountains to open, while the jet lag wears off.
  • West to Lausanne, with the Lavaux vineyard terraces dropping into the water and almost none of the wine leaving the country.
  • South through the Alps to Lugano — Italian-speaking, palm-lined, and nothing like the three days before it.
  • Monte Brè for the sunset and the lake boats for the villages.

The Epic Pass week

Your Whistler pass already covers the lift ticket.

Whistler Blackcomb is a Vail mountain, so a great many skiers in this city are already holding a pass that works in Switzerland. That changes the arithmetic of a Swiss ski week completely — the expensive part is bought.

Where you sleep

Andermatt or Crans-Montana

What is in it

  • Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis and Crans-Montana are Vail-owned: unlimited on the Epic Pass, five days each on Epic Local.
  • Verbier's 4 Vallées comes in as a partner resort — over 400 km of piste across four valleys.
  • Andermatt sits on the Glacier Express line, so a rail leg attaches to the ski week without a detour.
  • We arrange the ground: flights, rooms, transfers, lessons and the days off the hill. The lift access is yours already.

Late September – October

Larch gold in the Engadin

October, when the valley turns and the crowds have gone.

The Engadin is famous for its winter and quietly better in autumn. For two or three weeks the larch forests turn gold, the light goes long, and the valley holds its sun while the rest of the Alps sit under cloud.

Where you sleep

St. Moritz

What is in it

  • The highest, driest, brightest valley in Switzerland — the reliable-weather bet when the forecast elsewhere is grey.
  • Lake reflections at first light, which is the reason photographers come this fortnight and not another.
  • Shoulder season, so the rooms are better and the hotels are more generous. We would rather sell you this than July.
  • The Bernina line runs south from here to the Italian border without a single cog railway.

Tailor made

Or none of the above.

Most trips we run are not on this page. Someone has three days either side of a conference in Zurich, or a family with one walker and one who would rather sit by a lake, or a fortnight and no fixed idea at all.

Tell us the shape of it — dates, who is coming, and what you want to come home having done. We will send back a route and a real cost, and you can argue with both. That part is free and there is no obligation at the end of it.

Tell us about your trip

01

Individual journeys

Built around two, four, or a family. Pace, budget and interests set the shape; nothing is shared with strangers unless you want it to be.

Two travellers and up · fully bespoke

02

Group excursions

Clubs, families travelling together, colleagues. One point of contact, one plan, and pricing that improves as the group grows.

Eight travellers and up · escorted or self-guided

03

Planning only

You book your own flights and rooms; we do the routing, the timings and the local knowledge, and hand you the itinerary.

For travellers who prefer to book direct

The process

Four steps, and you can stop after any of them

  1. 01

    A conversation

Twenty minutes, no cost. Dates, rough budget, who is travelling, and what you want to come home having done.

  2. 02

    A draft route

We come back with a routing and a realistic cost. Not a brochure — a plan you can argue with.

  3. 03

    Revisions

Almost every trip changes shape here. This is the part where it becomes yours rather than ours.

  4. 04

    Booking and hand-off

We confirm, document and hand over the detail: times, addresses, names, and a number that answers while you are away.

The first step costs nothing.
